Business direction
What will matter in 1–2 years?
We design practical development programmes around your business priorities and the changing demands on your people. Each programme brings together your organisation's goals, your team's development needs and the right specialist expertise.
Small groups that allow meaningful interaction, observation and practical application.
From focused two-hour sessions to full-day workshops or development programmes delivered over several weeks.
Experts selected for the specific knowledge and experience your programme requires.
A structured review of how participants apply their learning at work, what has changed and where further development may be needed.
Every UTS programme starts from where your organisation is heading and what your people will need to get there.
What will matter in 1–2 years?
What capabilities should we develop now?
Development built around your challenge.
Every organisation is different. Your business priorities, your people and the challenges ahead are unique. The capabilities your organisation needs to develop should reflect that.
We don't begin with a catalogue of training courses. We begin by understanding your organisation, what you want to achieve and how your people will contribute to that direction.
Working together with business and people leaders, we look ahead over the next year or two. We explore what is changing, which capabilities will become increasingly important and where development can make a meaningful difference.
From there, we identify who would benefit from development and what people should be able to do differently afterwards.
The result is a development programme designed around your organisation's priorities, the needs of its people and the outcomes you want to achieve.
By capabilities, we mean the combination of knowledge, skills, judgement and collaboration that enables people to perform effectively in their business environment.
What will your people need to be able to do a year from now to help your organisation succeed?
Our approach follows six connected stages, each with a clear purpose and a defined outcome.
Together, we agree on the business priorities, development needs, learning outcomes, programme format and how we will evaluate the application of new capabilities in everyday work.
We start by working with your business and people leaders to establish a shared understanding of your organisation's priorities.
Together, we discuss your strategic direction, planned changes and the challenges your teams are likely to face over the next one to two years.
We then agree which capabilities are most important to develop and what business outcomes the programme should support.
A shared understanding of your business priorities, the capabilities required and the objectives of the development programme.
Before designing the programme, we need to understand the people who will participate in it.
We bring the group together for a structured discovery session built around a realistic business challenge. Participants work together to analyse the situation, explore possible solutions and make decisions.
Through this process, we observe how people approach problems, communicate, collaborate, contribute ideas and respond to different perspectives. This gives us practical insight into the group's existing strengths, working dynamics and potential development needs.
Rather than relying solely on questionnaires or assumptions, we observe capabilities in action.
An evidence-informed understanding of the group's strengths, development needs and behaviours that the programme should address.
Using the agreed business priorities and insights from Capability Discovery, we design a programme specifically for your organisation and its participants.
We define the learning outcomes, select relevant topics and methods, and determine how the different elements should work together.
The programme may combine practical exercises, business cases, specialist workshops, facilitated discussions and opportunities to apply new skills.
We also adapt the format and schedule to your operational needs, so development can take place without unnecessary disruption to everyday business.
A tailored development programme with agreed objectives, learning outcomes, methods, delivery format and measures for reviewing progress.
We select experts based on the capabilities your people need to develop.
Rather than starting with an available trainer and their existing course, we first identify the knowledge and experience required. We then bring in practitioners with relevant expertise in those specific areas.
A programme may involve several specialists, each contributing to the topics where their experience is most valuable.
This allows participants to learn from people who understand the practical realities of applying these capabilities in business.
Development delivered by specialists whose expertise matches the programme's objectives and the participants' needs.
Reflection and feedback are part of the development process, not simply an evaluation at the end.
Throughout the programme, we create structured opportunities for participants to reflect on their learning, share observations and discuss what they find useful or challenging.
We encourage people to express their views clearly, explain what they need and give constructive feedback. This is also an opportunity to practise important leadership and collaboration behaviours, including speaking up, listening to different perspectives and contributing to open discussions.
We gather feedback and observations to identify what is working, what needs further attention and how participants are progressing.
Structured participant feedback, insights into the group's development and practical recommendations for further improvement.
Development should make a difference beyond the workshop.
After an agreed period, typically three to four weeks, we conduct a structured follow-up to understand how participants are applying their learning in everyday work.
We review practical examples of what people have done differently, which capabilities they have used, what has helped them and what barriers remain. Where appropriate, we compare these observations with the learning outcomes agreed at the beginning of the programme.
This helps us identify progress, areas requiring reinforcement and opportunities for further development.
A structured review of the application of new capabilities, supported by practical examples and recommendations for the next steps.
Effective development starts with understanding what an organisation needs its people to achieve.
Our methodology connects business priorities, capability discovery, tailored programme design, specialist delivery and structured evaluation. Each stage has a defined purpose and contributes to the next, helping ensure that development is relevant, practical and aligned with the organisation's direction.
The approach also provides a consistent framework for documenting objectives, observations, learning outcomes, participant feedback and follow-up findings.

Our programme designers and delivery experts bring direct experience of leading teams, developing people and implementing change in complex organisations.
Their backgrounds span business leadership, AI implementation, recruitment, governance and workforce development.
They understand how to align individual learning and career development with the direction of the business, drawing on years of responsibility for people, delivery and performance.
This experience informs every stage of your programme: understanding the group, defining useful learning outcomes, choosing the right methods and bringing in the expertise each module needs.
It helps us turn business priorities into capabilities people can apply in their everyday work.
Our experts combine practical leadership and delivery experience with professional qualifications, certifications and specialist knowledge across business and technology. These include experience and qualifications in scaled agile frameworks, governance, organisational leadership and AI adoption.
We draw on the most relevant expertise for each programme, combining established methods with first-hand experience of implementing change and developing people in complex organisations.
We believe capability development should begin with a business challenge, not a predefined list of training courses. Every organisation operates in a different environment, faces different challenges and has different expectations of its people.
That's why we don't ask you to choose from a fixed catalogue. Instead, we work with you to understand what your organisation needs to achieve, which capabilities will support those objectives and where your people would benefit most from development.
Based on that understanding, we recommend the knowledge, skills and behaviours to focus on and design a programme that brings them together.
Depending on your organisation's needs, development may involve areas such as:
Understanding emerging technologies, applying AI in everyday work and adapting processes and responsibilities.
Leading teams, communicating effectively, making decisions and supporting people through change.
Strengthening commercial understanding, problem-solving, analytical thinking and the ability to influence decisions.
Preparing people for evolving roles, new ways of working and changing business expectations.
Developing the knowledge and practical skills required for specific roles, functions, technologies or business challenges.
These are examples, not the limits of what we can develop. The final programme is defined by your business objectives, your people's needs and the specialist expertise required to address them.
One organisation. One set of priorities. A programme designed around both.
A Change Management team is supporting an AI rollout.
It needs to understand the technology, learn from previous transformations and help people adopt new ways of working.
Rather than selecting a single generic course, we bring together different areas of expertise to address the team's specific challenge.
The final scope is shaped by the needs of the organisation and its participants.
Explore the impact of technology on tasks, roles, responsibilities and everyday processes.
Identify patterns, adoption risks and areas where people need support.
Help people navigate uncertainty, changing expectations and new ways of working.
Bring technology, evidence and people's needs together in a practical plan of action.
Help the team plan and support change driven by AI.
This example illustrates how different capabilities and specialist perspectives can be combined around one business challenge.
Your programme includes discovery, tailored development, structured feedback and a follow-up on how learning is being applied at work. Each stage contributes to a clearer understanding of your people's capabilities and how they can continue to develop.
Capability priorities linked to your business objectives and the group's identified development needs.
Agreed learning outcomes, methods and modules, delivered by specialists matched to your needs.
Observations from the programme, participant feedback and practical guidance for further development.
A structured follow-up exploring which capabilities participants have applied, what has changed in their everyday work and where further support may be needed.
No.
You don't need to start with a specific course or even a fully defined development plan.
We work with you to understand your business priorities and identify the capabilities that will help your people contribute to them. Based on those needs, we recommend the most relevant development approach and design the programme around your organisation.
We believe meaningful development requires active participation, interaction and opportunities to practise.
Smaller groups allow us to observe how people work together, encourage everyone to contribute and provide more individual attention.
For larger populations, we can structure development across multiple groups or sessions.
No.
The duration and format depend on your objectives, the capabilities being developed and your operational needs.
A programme may consist of a focused two-hour session, a full-day workshop, two consecutive days or a series of shorter sessions spread over several weeks.
We design the schedule with you, balancing effective development with the need to keep your business running.
Absolutely.
Many programmes benefit from bringing together specialists with different backgrounds. We select experts according to the knowledge and experience required for each part of the programme.
This means your people learn from practitioners who understand the specific subjects being addressed, rather than relying on one trainer to cover everything.
We use a structured approach that begins with agreed learning outcomes and continues through participant observation, feedback and follow-up.
During the programme, we gather evidence of participation, learning and the group's development needs. Afterwards, we review practical examples of how participants have applied new capabilities in their everyday work.
This helps us understand what has changed, what is working and where further development may be needed.
